A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to avoid arguing with family members. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments came out over the break, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio known for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not yet been announced.
