Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
